‘You can get the facts, but it’s not the same as getting out there and talking with other pos guys. Talk about what type of sex you’re into. What does risk taking mean for them? We learn from each other.’ Rodney

Intro transcript

Sharing your experiences can help to build skills and confidence to talk about the type of sex you want and manage risks like syphilis.

Stuart, Rodney and Renè talk about sex. They talk about disclosure and handling ‘no’; what they are or aren’t prepared to do during sex and how they negotiate different sexual scenes with new partners; hooking up on the net; making decisions on whether to ditch the condom in pos-pos sex; testing for STIs, and the importance of open communication.

Stuart

I was diagnosed seven years ago. I came out 20 years ago so I spent 12 or 13 years on the gay scene being HIV negative and negotiating sex. I contracted HIV about four days before Mardi Gras in 2002 and I’ve been on medication for the last three years.

Rodney

Yeah, hi, my name’s Rodney and a little bit about myself- I was diagnosed HIV positive back in 1983, 1984.

Renè

Yes, my name is Renè, I’ve been positive for more than 20, 23 years.
